Esta obra comienza analizando la trascendencia de la reforma constitucional del 2008 en los servicios periciales, los sistemas de enjuiciamiento penal y la prueba pericial en el procedimiento penal. Enfatizando en la importancia de los servicios periciales, específicamente en la metodología para la intervención del perito en la etapa preliminar, intermedia y de juicio del procedimiento penal acusatorio. Así mismo, la obra destaca la relevancia de la expresión lingüística en el desahogo de la prueba pericial, principalmente en la argumentación basada en principios para justificar las conclusiones del informe oral que desahoga el experto ante el tribunal de enjuiciamiento. Por otro lado, el libro concluye analizando la validez científica del informe pericial oral en la etapa de juicio del procedimiento penal acusatorio a través de un estudio metodológico justificado desde el positivismo científico, la epistemología de la virtud de Linda Zagzebski y el papel del experto de Alvin Ira Goldman. Además, examina la demarcación científica del informe pericial en la etapa de juicio desde la postura epistémica de Karl Raimund Popper. El libro es una invitación a la reflexión de la función pericial dentro del procedimiento penal acusatorio, enfatizando en la ciencia con validez y por ende confiabilidad. Por esta razón, describe los principales retos y perspectivas para el desarrollo científico de la Criminalística.
